Asunción, Agencia IP.- The British Foreign Secretary, David Cameron, began a historic visit to Paraguay on Tuesday, marking the strengthening of relations between the two countries and the opportunity to deepen bilateral cooperation and trade.

«It’s the first time a British Foreign Secretary has visited Paraguay, after 160 years of relations, it’s a great pleasure and privilege to be here,» expressed Cameron, after a meeting with President Santiago Peña and members of his cabinet at the Government Palace, which he described as «an excellent conversation» with the President.

«There are many coincidences between the United Kingdom and Paraguay,» he emphasized, while appreciating Paraguay’s stance on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the conflict between Israel and Palestine, and other situations in the global geopolitical context.

«Regarding the relationship with Paraguay, the British Foreign Secretary assured us that there are many partnership opportunities for the future, especially regarding environmental and sustainability issues.»

National Chancellor Rubén Ramírez, for his part, highlighted the presence of British investments in green hydrogen projects and Paraguay’s contribution to the generation and export of clean and renewable energy.

The trade balance between Paraguay and the United Kingdom stands at US$120 million in exports and US$65 million in imports, Chancellor Ramírez cited. Both authorities expressed their interest in deepening commercial relations and increasing bilateral trade.
