Paraguay and the United States strengthen cooperation in defense and fight against organized crime

Asunción, Agencia IP.- President Santiago Peña received General Laura Richardson, Commander of the United States Southern Command, who is in the country to celebrate 80 years of cooperation with Paraguay in security and defense.

The President reported that he discussed «joint projects to strengthen security and fight against organized crime» with the General, as he posted on his X account.

At the end of the meeting, the Commander mentioned that they discussed the security challenges facing Paraguay and how to increase cooperation to address them.

National Chancellor Ruben Ramírez added that another point addressed was cooperation in cybersecurity, «one of the key factors we are working on at the moment.»

Military authorities, Chancellor Ramírez, and Head of Cabinet Lea Giménez participated in the meeting. The United States Ambassador to our country, Marc Ostfield, indicated that the visit represents a commitment to assisting and protecting peace and security «and establishing conditions for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.»
