Paraguay assumes the Pro Tempore Presidency of Gafilat for the 2024 period

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Liliana Alcaraz, Minister of the Secretariat for the Prevention of Money Laundering or Property (Seprelad), has assumed the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Financial Action Task Force of Latin America (Gafilat) for the period 2024.

Alcaraz’s assumption of the position took place within the framework of the XLVIII Meeting of the Working Groups and the Plenary of Representatives of Gafilat, held in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from December 11 to 15, 2023.

At the same time, Jorge Marroquín, the National Coordinator of Guatemala, assumed the Vice Presidency, as reported by Seprelad.

Gafilat is a regional intergovernmental organization that brings together 17 countries from South America, Central America, and North America.

It collaborates in the prevention and combat of money laundering, terrorism financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, building an action network with all its members within the framework of a broader global network.

In addition, it provides specialized technical assistance to public and private entities, promotes compliance with the 40 recommendations through mutual evaluations, and has the authority to develop its standards for improving AML/CFT policies.

The plenary of Representatives is composed of delegates appointed by each member state. It is chaired by the President and Vice President, elected for a one-year term.
