Paraguay gives a license to Stanlink to provide satellite internet service

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The National Commission of Telecommunications (Conatel, by its acronym in Spanish) gave license to the enterprise Starlink to provide the service of data transmission and access to the internet to Paraguay.

This measure is part of the government’s vision to connect all regions of Paraguay, including the most remote zones, with broadband and low-latency internet service.

The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, announced through his X account, “Welcome @Starlink from @ElonkMusk to Paraguay. Connecting all our territory to the digital world is a key step to fulfilling our government goals”, said the President.

He added that “the connectivity to the internet is more than technology; it is also inclusion and opportunities to improve the quality of life of all the Paraguayans no matter where they are”.

Likewise, the Minister of Technologies of the Information and Communication (Mitic, by its acronym in Spanish), Gustavo Villate, celebrated “the important milestone that will allow Paraguay to connect to high-quality internet to all the country, reducing the digital breach for all to have the same opportunities and benefits of the digital world in education, health, security and economic development”.

Starlink, an enterprise that started as a project from SpaceX created by Elon Musk, operates a constellation of satellites in orbit no geostationary, intending to provide high-speed Internet access and global coverage.

Currently, the SpaceX network has over 3,000 satellites functioning. It is a viable solution to take the internet to remote areas such as the Paraguayan Chaco, where connectivity is limited or nonexistent. The user terminals provided by Starlink are compact and easy to use, which will facilitate its use in communities in need of internet.

The access to satellite internet broadband in Paraguay is presented as a valuable tool to boost economic growth, attract new investments and generate jobs in the country.

The license given to Starlink is a milestone in the search for a more connected Paraguay and syntony with the digital world. With the support of Mitic, Conatel and the government’s compromise, it is expected that this initiative will positively transform people’s lives from all over the country.
