Paraguay interested in hosting the Pan-American Games 2027

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), Camilo Pérez, acknowledged Paraguay’s interest in organizing the Pan-American Games 2027, a continental event that, until a few days ago, was meant to happen in Barranquilla, Colombia.

«We have repeatedly stated that Paraguay is interested in multiple sports events. We have already submitted our bid for the Junior Olympic Games. We would like to host other events,» Pérez told Caracol Radio when asked if they would vie for the 2027 Pan-American Games.

He also confirmed that Peru and Mexico are also in the running to host the Pan-American Games. According to Pérez, Paraguay has the government’s support from President Santiago Peña, who has a background as the captain of the country’s rugby team.

Paraguay recently hosted the South American Games in Asunción 2022. «We are very proud of what we accomplished in 2022. However, organizing the Pan-American Games is a challenging task. In recent months, we have submitted much documentation to the IOC.»

Despite the interest of Paraguay and other countries planning to bid as hosts, it is still too early to determine if Barranquilla has definitively lost the hosting rights. Colombia plans to regain the Pan-American Games hosting, and a crucial meeting on this matter is scheduled for Monday, as reported by El Espectador.
