Paraguay is the only country in Latin America to generate a surplus of clean energy

Asunción, Agencia IP.- “Paraguay is the only country in Latin America that generates a surplus of clean energy. While others talk about green percentages, our energetic mix is 100% clean”, expressed the Minister of Economics and Finances, Carlos Fernández.

“Foreign capital needs to understand that Paraguay will no longer be a subordinate, but rather a partner to be looked at as equal,” stated the Minister during an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.

Regarding the commercial exchange between Paraguay and Spain, he expressed that the historical ties between both countries are the hinge that will allow to open or close the doors of economic, environmental and political affairs between Latin America and Europe. “I would also like to see the possibility of Spanish enterprises coming to Paraguay”, declared the Minister.

Likewise, he stated that it is being worked on modifying the law to facilitate that the private sector can deploy solar and wind plants in the country and thus pave the way for the energy transition. “We have sun and water all year round, which is needed to develop the green hydrogen. We have already discussed this with Spanish companies and other countries, such as Brazil, and agreements have been signed with the National Enterprise of Electricity for the supply of clean energy. I do not believe in revolutions but evolution, so we are also impulsing the use of green fertilizers that we have already started producing. We aim to export it very soon”, stated Fernández.

Finally, the Minister indicated that all enterprise capital is welcomed in Paraguay. He explained that there had been an absence between Europe and Latin America recently and that other countries with resources and interest have occupied a void that the European Union have left.

The lack of presence of European countries has facilitated the attendance of China and Arab capitals, too. We are maintaining conversations with Arabia Saudí and the United Arab Emirates, and they both have a great interest in investing not only in Paraguay but in many other countries in Latin America. And this is happening because of the absence of an allied historically important for Paraguay, that is, Europe”, referred the Minister of Economics and Finances.
