Paraguay receives international award for gastronomic Capital

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguay has been awarded the «Ibero-American Capital of Guarani Gastronomy in the Socio-Cultural Scope of the Jesuit Missions 2024» for Asunción, within the framework of the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) 2024 held in Madrid, Spain.

The distinction was received this Wednesday by the Minister of Tourism, Angie Duarte; the President of the Paraguayan Academy of Gastronomy, Carlos Insfrán; the President of the Association of Restaurants of Paraguay, Oliver Gayet; and the Director of the Hospitality Management Career at the Polytechnic Faculty – UNA, Hugo Caballero.

The Head of the National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur) highlighted the award, emphasizing the preservation and enhancement work carried out in conjunction with the mentioned institutions. She also noted that Paraguay’s gastronomic heritage is part of the fusion of two worlds, the pre-Columbian and the colonial, aiming to create flavor experiences.

«From the National Tourism Secretariat, we will continue working to strengthen all sectors linked to the gastronomic activity that have distinguishing elements, elements that help enhance the idea of involving communities aiming at the sustainable development of our people,» expressed the tourism minister at another moment.

The Ibero-American Institute of Gastronomy presented the award. The designation of Gastronomic Capital implies the arrival of international chefs in the coming months who will come to learn about the details of our traditional and typical dishes, generating an exchange of experiences with Paraguayan cuisine leaders. Above all, it will place the country on the world stage in the next two years.

The delegation included Claudia Franco, the National Director of Intellectual Property (Dinapi), national and foreign entrepreneurs, and Senatur technicians.
