Paraguay to host the OAS General Assembly in June

Asuncion, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, announced that Paraguay will host the 54th General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS), which will take place from June 26 to 28 in Asuncion.

«We continue working to position Paraguay in the world,» said the President when announcing through the social network X.

The 54th OAS General Assembly will be held from June 26 to 28 in Asuncion, according to the resolution approved this Wednesday by the OAS Permanent Council.

The resolution indicates that initially, this year’s assembly was to take place in Suriname. Still, recently, that country’s Government has communicated the withdrawal of its offer to host the summit.

With this circumstance, Paraguay formally offered to host the 54th General Assembly, which the Permanent Commission accepted.

The Organization of American States is the leading regional forum for dialogue, policy analysis, and decision-making on Hemisphere issues, bringing together leaders from the nations of the Americas to address regional issues and opportunities.

Currently, the OAS brings together the 35 independent states of the Americas. In addition, it has granted Permanent Observer status to 70 states and the European Union (EU).
