Paraguay will reunite 600 athletes from 16 countries in the Juniors World Padel Championships

Asunción, Agencia IP.- From November 13 to 18, the Juniors World Padel Championships will take place in Asunción. For the event, around 600 athletes from 16 countries are expected to participate.

During the last five years, the Paraguayan Padel Federation started a process of development in the discipline in all parts of the country, which translated into the Junior category of the World Championship, which the national team will defend.

The President of the Federation, Jorge Ramírez, highlighted the growth in the number of courts and to take the tournaments in cities from the countryside, allowing the national team to have a better future. “We are betting a lot on the cities of the countryside and developing tournaments there,” said during an interview with the TV Program “Tribuna” by Paraguay TV channel.

In September 2020, our country was the Juniors World Padel Championship Champion, a worldwide championship for under 18-year-olds. Two years later, the national team will defend the title at home, with the tournament held from November 13 to 18.

“After becoming juniors champions, we have young athletes working out in Spain, the world cradle of padel”, highlighted Ramírez, and he pointed out that with the support of sponsors, the team is prepared to hold the title in the championship that will reunite 432 athletes from 16 countries.

The Juniors World Padel Championships, which will take place in November, will be the most important tournament in the history of the Federation; it is expected that it will contribute to the sport’s growth, he continued.

Court growth

One of the points that allowed the sport’s success was the increase in the number of courts. The President of the Federation indicated that padel is an easy sport to develop, and it benefited from being one of the sports that could be practised during quarantine in our country.

It was during a “biggest explosion”, and courts were installed in cities such as Santaní, Caaguazú, Campo 4 and the Paraguayan Chaco.

The President of the Paraguayan Federation was accompanied during the interview by Víctor Pecci, historical tennis player and current assessor of the National Secretary of Sports (SND, by its acronym in Spanish), who highlighted that this strategy of taking the sport to the countryside is what is allowing to have representatives in the exterior. “Padel had that luck. It depends on arriving in the countryside with another sports alternative”.

Juniors World Padel Championships

The World Padel Championships will be disputed from November 13 to 18 in two main sceneries: SND Arena and Quinta Sport.

Also, an open padel junior will be organized for athletes interested in participating in a parallel competition where they will not represent their countries.

With both events, it is expected the presence of around 600 athletes during the five days of the competition.
