Paraguayan meat conquers the Asian and Middle Eastern markets

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Paraguayan meat, both beef and pork, is increasing in the international market. Taiwan stands out as the primary recipient of pork. At the same time, Israel emerges as an essential market for beef, according to official data.

The March report from the National Service of Quality and Animal Health (Senacsa) indicates that beef and pork have shown a rebound in their shipment numbers in the international market so far this year. Taiwan and Israel are established as important recipient destinations for pork and beef products in 2024.

Regarding the Asian country, the Republic of China (Taiwan) is established as the first destination for the shipment of Paraguayan pork, which showed an exponential growth of more than 500% in 2023, both in volume and value.

In the first four months of this year, Taiwan imported 2,436,030 kilograms of pork worth more than USD 7 million. Pork protein exports to the Asian country constitute 90% of national pork exports abroad in the first four months of 2024.

Likewise, this protein is destined for Uruguay, which imported 472,981 kilograms by the end of April, reaching USD 768,314. Georgia and Brazil are also minor destinations.

Beef is also conquering new markets and gaining ground in some countries. In this regard, the national red protein showed an upturn in Taiwan.

According to the Senacsa report, in the first four months of the year, the Asian country imported 8,458,506 kilograms of beef, worth USD 37 million. This consolidation of the Taiwanese market as the second leading market for this protein in terms of volume.

A record export figure of Paraguayan red protein to the Taiwanese market is expected in 2024.

Taiwan ranks as the third-largest market for Paraguayan beef offal. By the end of April this year, exports totaled more than USD 1 million, or about 652,168 kilograms.

All these positive data on trade exchange between Paraguay and Taiwan demonstrate the great dynamism of our commercial exchange, strengthening our solid relations between both nations.

It is important to highlight the presence of beef in the Middle East, as shipments of Paraguayan red protein to this market have increased since the second half of last year.

Such is the case of Israel, the fourth national beef destination market. According to Senacsa, in the first four months of the year, a total of 7,179,246 kilograms were sent for a value of USD 36 million.

Beef is also exported to Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait, among other Middle Eastern nations.
