Paraguay’s green production capacity was highlighted at a global meeting in the U.S.

Asunción, Agencia IP.- During the 2024 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) in Washington DC, the Minister of Economy and Finance, Carlos Fernández Valdovinos, emphasized our country’s strengths and opportunities in the field of green production.

In a panel discussion titled «Paraguay: From Macroeconomic Stability to Green Investment Destination,» Minister Valdovinos highlighted Paraguay’s macroeconomic stability and green production capacity.

According to Fernández Valdovinos, Paraguay has the potential to become a significant regional hub for biofuels, including bioethanol and biodiesel, thereby contributing to global food security.

One of the highlights was the binational hydroelectric power plant Itaipú, which stands as the largest producer of clean and renewable energy in Paraguay. The Minister noted that 100% of the country’s electricity comes from clean and renewable sources, achieving the desired green transition by 2050, already accomplished in 2024.

The Minister emphasized the importance of continued support from multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to back Paraguay’s measures and reforms toward a greener economy.
