Asunción, Agencia IP.- Pope Francis will receive the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, at the Vatican this Monday. The Head of State will depart for Rome on Saturday; then, he will travel to Dubai for the United Nations Climate Change Conferences (UNFCCC COP 28).
The Chancellor Rubén Ramírez Lezcano provided details of Peña’s international agenda during a press conference yesterday at Mburuvicha Róga.
Ramírez Lezcano confirmed that the President will depart for Rome, Italy, this Saturday, where he will arrive on Sunday for the meeting he will hold with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Monday.
This will be the first meeting between the Supreme Pontiff and President Santiago Peña since he took over as Head of the Paraguayan Executive on August 15.
During his stay in Italy, Peña will be received by his colleague Sergio Mattarella, as well as by the Prime Minister of that country, Giorgia Meloni. The agenda includes meetings with other Italian authorities and businesspeople from Rome and Milan.
Afterward, Peña will travel to the United Arab Emirates to join the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 28), which will be held in Dubai between November 30 and December 12.
The President will also be in Abu Dhabi participating in the testing of the Paraguayan driver Joshua Duerksen and the subscription of the sponsor who will accompany him as a driver for the PHM Racing team in Formula 2 for 2024.
He will then return to Dubai to promote an “extensive” agenda that includes meetings with heads of state and conferences related to COP 28, as detailed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In that context, he manifested that the details for a bilateral agenda with the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, are being adjusted. They will discuss several topics, including the Annex C of the Itaipu Treaty.
Vacancies at 17 Paraguayan Embassies
The Minister of Foreign Affairs informed that there are vacancies in 17 Paraguayan Embassies worldwide, for which they expect to have the economic resources for the designations.
“We will be appointing different people representing our country in essential countries, such as Germany, Italy, Spain, the Organization of American States (OAS), the United Nations, South Korea, and Argentina, among others. We have to appoint ambassadors in several countries soon,” he finally pointed out.
