President initiates official visit to Washington to “make the voice of Paraguay heard”

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, arrived yesterday in Washington DC, United States, and shortly after his arrival, shared an encounter with the Paraguayan community in that country. From Monday, he will start his official agenda with meetings to “make the voice of Paraguay heard” and communicate that the country is “determined to integrate into the world.”

During the encounter that took place in the Paraguayan Consulate with the Paraguayan community residing in Washington, President Peña pointed out that his visit to the Capital of the United States aims to make the voice of Paraguay heard, a country that is determined to integrate into the world.

He indicated that during his extensive agenda, he would maintain meetings with representatives from the US Congress, universities, investigation centers, and the American Chamber of Commerce, among others.

“Washington is the political capital of the world, the place where lots of decisions are made,” which is why “it is important to come and bring Paraguay’s voice,” said Peña.

The President reminded the Paraguayans residing in the USA that he was also once a migrant, and he feels that “it does not matter where we live, we are always pending on Paraguay.”

Likewise, the President recognized that there is “a huge need” to generate a dialogue within Paraguay’s authorities with the Paraguayan communities abroad, with the vision of “maintaining united the Paraguayan community abroad” and to “see how they can collaborate with Paraguay.”

Peña affirmed that from his Government, he works to generate “better conditions for the ones aiming to return, to improve health, education and work sources,” he said.

The President also pointed out that Paraguay benefits from “having fellow citizens abroad with capacities and opportunities that Paraguay may not have” since they can share it with the country through investment or knowledge from different areas where they work.

Lastly, he remarked that it was a challenge to “connect the Paraguayan diaspora with Paraguay, that they can go, stay in touch with family and friends, and why not see how they can collaborate with Paraguay.”
