Public works mark the beginning of a new Pilar, maximizing its high tourism potential

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Capital of Ñeembucú is getting ready to initiate a new chapter in its rich history, far from the times of suffering that its inhabitants went through during flood seasons.

Today, through two emblematic works impulse by the Government with the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC, by its acronym in Spanish), the city of Pilar, besides attracting new investments, will be able to exploit its tourism potential.

The recent partial opening of the route (Lote 1) that connects to Alberdi and Asunción directly adding Phase A of the coastal defence that is in its final stage allows the inhabitants not only to feel unconcerned but also to think about the future with optimism, trusting that in a short-term, the city will be able to grow in all aspects.

And as if that were not enough, work is already underway on the preliminary project for constructing an international bridge that will connect it with Puerto Cano, Argentina, and an Industrial Park that its new urban planning will accompany.

Tourism to the next level

The main tourist attractions that Pilar offers to its visitors are historical places, gastronomy and beaches.

Regarding history, there is the antique council where elements from the War of Triple Alliance are displayed, such as the original chair that Marshall Francisco Solano López used, in which the headboard is impressed with his initials.

It can also be found in personal chattels that used to belong to Juanita Pesoa, the first love of Marshall López, and images and original structures of the first church known as Villa del Pilar.

The Basilic “Nuestra Señora del Pilar” was the first one in Paraguay, built by citizens from Pilar and designed by Italians. A big part of the basilic was brought specially from Italy.

Other attractions from Pilar are the beaches around the coastal defence. Though not all are open, it is a very convenient site to enjoy nature and views.

Regarding gastronomy, the city has many hotels, hostels and inns. Also, restaurants that offer quality and varied dishes such as fish or barbecue with the traditional Paraguayan solid soup.
