Santiago Peña’s first 100 days: «Every step we take brings us closer to a better future»

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, accomplished today 100 days as President with a government model characterized by the union of efforts between institutions, both the Executive and other powers, to modernize the State, achieve inclusive economic growth, and position Paraguay to the world.

Through his X account, the Head of State wrote, «Just 100 days ago, we began a long road ahead, but every step we take brings us closer to a better future.»

Likewise, he admitted that there are many challenges that he projects to face during his administration. He said, «Everything is possible if we walk together, putting the well-being of all Paraguayans first.»

Main actions

1. Decrease of Gs. 850 on all fuels

A few days after taking over the administration, Petropar ordered a decrease in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and G. 850 in all the fuels it sells. Through the Paraguayan oil company (Petropar), the Government transferred benefits to everyone, thus fulfilling the promise of the Head of the Executive Branch, Santiago Peña, under a valuable integral reengineering carried out by the administration of the state oil company.

2. More resources from Tekoporã Mbarete

Through Tekoporã Mbarete, aid was reinforced by helping those who need it most so their children can eat and study to break the poverty cycle. For this purpose, the Ministry of Social Development (MDS, by its acronym in Spanish) increased the Conditional Monetary Transfer (CCT) by 25 percent to the more than 1,800,000 people integrating the program.

3. Housing subsidies for 2,200 families

In an unprecedented event, Paraguay’s Government made the dream of owning their homes possible for 2,200 families in a situation of poverty who accessed the housing subsidy granted by the Ministry of Urban Planning, Housing and Habitat (MUVH, by its acronym in Spanish). This type of benefit will also reach indigenous communities.

4. Training of 600 new Lince agents

The details are being adjusted to incorporate 600 new agents from Grupo Lince, who will take to the streets to serve the citizens and improve security. The goal is to triple the number of troops, reaching 1,800 as part of the commitment to achieving a safer country.

5. Cement price reduction

The construction sector is crucial in generating jobs. In that sense, the reduction of G. 2,000 per bag of cement produced by the National Cement Industry (INC, by its acronym in Spanish) was established in all types and up to G. 40,000 less in bulk. With this, the state cement company aims at competitiveness based on the product quality made by Paraguayans.

6. “Che Róga Porã” Program

The first phase of «Che Roga Porã» began with the registration of housing developers. It is expected that by the end of this year, all Paraguayans will be able to start the process of achieving the dream of owning their homes and investing what they spend on rent in an investment for their family.

7. Record land titling for small farmers

With this measure, an important step is taken to settle the State’s debt with the small producer sector, facilitating access to the long-awaited land so they can get ahead through their work.

In this context, the National Institute of Rural and Land Development (Indert, by its acronym in Spanish) lowered the interest for access to land from 12 to 4 percent for male holders and from 12 to 0 percent for female holders.

8. Night care in hospitals (extension of hours)

With the authorization of 31 public hospitals with nighttime medical care, the Ministry of Public Health began a historic process so that Paraguayans could receive the care they deserve without lines and avoid long waits.

Since its implementation, 45,196 consultations have been carried out in four main specialties: medical clinic, pediatrics, gynecology, and surgery.

9. Opening of the American market to Paraguayan beef

Paraguay conquers the United States with the best meat in the world. This reopens the US market for Paraguayan meat, resulting from joint efforts between the Government of Paraguay, national producers, and the meat processing industry. «A historical milestone that reminds us that by working together, we can take Paraguay forward,» Peña highlighted.

10. Palma Shines Project

It is a historical event to recover the beauty of an emblematic place in the country and revitalize it. In addition to the underground wiring lines and renewed and improved lighting, various artistic and cultural activities are planned for the remainder of the year so that Palma shines again.

11. Starlink in Paraguay for better connectivity

Connecting the entire territory to the digital world is fundamental to achieving government goals. Internet connectivity is more than technology; it is also inclusion and opportunities to improve the quality of life of all Paraguayans, no matter where they are.

12. Carbon Credit Law

Acting Law No. 7190/2023, «Carbon Credits,» will allow Paraguay to attract international funds due to its low carbon dioxide emission. This will help capitalize substantial income for the country to conserve and protect natural resources and contribute to social, environmental, and cultural development.

13. Mandatory digital documents

Paraguay takes an essential step towards digitalization with mandatory digital documents. The citizen can access these documents from any device on the Paraguay.gov.py Portal by logging in with their Electronic Identity without worrying about carrying the physical format.

In addition, this initiative seeks to improve the efficiency and transparency of the State by allowing authorities to validate the authenticity of documents quickly and safely.

14. Assistance to the people of Chaco

While working on designing a definitive solution for the water shortage in Chaco, the Government extended its hand to compatriots in that area of the country, with more than 15 million liters of drinking water distributed by various institutions.

15. Public finance management measures

The Ministry of Public Health optimized resources to obtain better quality with better prices, allowing the purchase of medicines and supplies for 89 million dollars in 10 bidding processes.

Likewise, all biddings that began in the previous administration were reviewed, applying the reasonableness criteria established by the National Directorate of Public Contracts (DNCP, by its acronym in Spanish).

16. Reactivation of road works

To this end, tenders worth USD 1,075 million are underway, promoting the bidding for projects that improve the quality of life of thousands of inhabitants through the construction and expansion of road infrastructure, sewage, and drinking water services to ensure a healthier and more sustainable environment.

17. Inaugural Venue of the 2030 World Cup

Paraguay will host one of the opening matches of the 2030 World Cup. The South American Football Confederation (Conmebol, by its acronym in Spanish) communicated FIFA’s agreement for the three opening matches to be held in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay, and the rest of the championship to be played in Spain, Portugal, and Morocco.

The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, highlighted the long-awaited announcement and stated that Paraguay «is prepared for great things.»

18. MUVH works on 775 housing solutions

In the first 100 days, the Ministry of Urban Planning, Housing and Habitat (MUVH, by its acronym in Spanish) focused its efforts on managing housing solutions for different segments of the population through its diverse programs and projects, such as Fonavis, 1,000 homes for Native Peoples/UNE Che Tapýi, AMA-BID, Chacarita Alta Integrated Improvement Project, Affordable Housing and Vy’a Renda.

19. Strengthening the Paraguayan electrical system

The project «Strengthening the Paraguayan Electrical System Interconnected to Itaipu Binacional» is in progress with ANDE, with almost 60 percent execution.

The works will allow Paraguay the necessary technical conditions to access 100 percent of the contracted power corresponding to Itaipu.

The project comprises seven components, with an assigned budget of USD 229 million and an execution period of 60 months. The completion of the agreement is scheduled for 2026.

20. Efficiency in public management with electronic signature

Promoting the digital transformation of the Government of Paraguay, offering a safe and reliable technological tool through electronic signatures, public officials can sign documents quickly and efficiently without the need to print, scan, or send physical documents.

This not only speeds up administrative procedures but also reduces costs and promotes sustainability by reducing the use of paper. In addition, electronic signatures guarantee the authenticity and integrity of digital documents, providing greater security and confidence in the processes carried out.
