Senad intercepted a drug trafficking operation with over 33 tons of marijuana in Canindeyú

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The National Antidrugs Secretary (Senad, by its acronym in Spanish) intercepted a convoy of three vehicles transporting over 33 tons of drugs on a road in the Yby Pytã, Canindeyú department.

Special agents of the Senad from the Direction of Intelligence carried out several operations on Sunday afternoon and evening as part of an investigation called the «Azkaban» case. It was initiated when the antidrug agents intercepted a convoy of three vehicles transporting 3.322 kilograms of marijuana, distributed on 302 packages.

Under the direction of the prosecutor Guillermo Sanabria, the retinue intercepted two Toyota automobiles and a Hyundai truck that were going behind one another to the border with Brazil.

Five people were detained, identified as Patricio Ariel Benítez Quintana, Líder David Gómez Benítez, Aldo Rubén Contreras Navarro, Elio Antonio Sosa González and Lucía Ortega Fernández.

Afterwards, four raids were made in the houses of the detained, in coordination with the prosecutor Néstor Narváez, where no further evidence was found. Nevertheless, the prosecutor arranged the transfers of the vehicles to be detained at the Operations Base of the Senad in Asunción, where the count and weighing of the requisitioned cargo was made.
