Strategic alliances for Paraguay’s development strengthened through President Peña’s meetings

Asunción, Agencia IP.- During the encounters that the President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, maintained during his visit to Washington, strategic alliances with critical sectors for Paraguay’s development were strengthened.

«We want the world to know our potential as a country, to connect Paraguay to the world and be able to provide more opportunities to our people,» manifested the President as a primary objective of his visit to the American Capital.

In that sense, the meeting that was maintained with ten senators and representatives of different parties in the Capital helped establish strong ties with an American branch with which Paraguay has never worked, according to the expressions of the President.

Likewise, in the Head of State agenda, meetings with executives of technology companies occupied an important place, considering the vision of transforming Paraguay into a technology hub, attracting investment, and generating employment.

The President also approached the development of the digital agenda as a primary element in the achievements of the Government’s plan. «A country connected not only to the world but also to the countryside facilitates citizens the procedures and public management, besides noting the importance of using technology in fighting corruption and strengthening transparency,» the President said.

During other encounters, Peña had the opportunity to position our country in the debate of sustainable development and the protection of the environment. «Paraguay is called to be a great protagonist in sustainable development, which we are aiming for as a country,» recognized the President, who presented the plans for the upcoming years in conservation and preservation of the environment, defending the country’s productive model.

Also, the President’s agenda constituted a step ahead in the strengthening of bilateral relations between Paraguay and the United States. «In the Wilson Center, I had the opportunity to share Paraguay’s vision, mainly in an international framework. A central topic that occupied our agenda was the bilateral relationship between Paraguay and the United States», he said.

At the same time, the strategic relation with the Republic of China (Taiwan) was approached, and the similarities of the ties between both nations with the United States. Regarding this, the President met with Bi-Khim Hsiao, Ambassador of the Republic of China (Taiwan) to the United States.

Finally, it was highlighted the meetings of President Peña with authorities of regional and multilateral organizations, such as the Organization of American States (OAS), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), and The Heritage Foundation, where he remarked on the country’s commitment with principles such as democracy and sustainable social development.
