The Executive Branch declares Ao Po’i as the official preferred attire for the summer season

Asunción, Agencia IP.- By Decree 929, the Executive Branch has declared the nationally originated Ao Po’i fabric as the official preferred attire for the National Government. The Decree suggests government officials and high authorities in the public administration wear this traditional fabric at least once a week during the summer season.

The decree highlights that Ao Po’i fabric is an artisanal garment that symbolizes Paraguayan culture, deeply rooted in the national collective, thus constituting the nation’s cultural heritage. It uniquely represents the artistic talent of Paraguayan artisans who have perfected this beautiful art over the years.

It also represents a commercially significant activity, contributing to the economic development of communities involved in its design, production, and marketing. This, in turn, helps create employment opportunities and fosters growth in the artisanal economy.

For these reasons, the Decree encourages officials to wear Ao Po’i during the summer season, at least once a week, to strengthen national identity and raise awareness about the importance of preserving this cultural asset. The initiative aims to promote and support the craft industry by fostering an appreciation for the cultural significance of Ao Po’i.
