The former Argentinian Director of the EBY asks his country to negotiate its payment problems humbly

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The former Argentinian Director of the Binational Entity Yacyretá and current candidate to Senator Martín Goerling asked the authorities of his country to recognize the payment problems that are currently holding and to “humbly negotiate” with Paraguay.

“Argentina has serious debt problems. What needs to be done with Paraguay is to sit, with total humbly and negotiate. Not this attack of saying one thing to the President of Paraguay and then cross the border and go back on what was said”, expressed Goerling during an interview with ABC TV.

As a former director of the binational, he stated he knows the reality of the treaty. He highlighted that the transfer of surplus energy of one of the parties is stipulated. He indicated that when he was in charge as a Director on the Argentinian side of the binational, it had debts with Paraguay for the transferred energy, which was completely paid off.

With the current administration, new debt was generated. In that sense, he asked the authorities of his country to sit with humility and negotiate payment mechanisms. “It is inadmissible to generate a conflict of this magnitude with Paraguay” for this issue, he said.

About Paraguay’s decision to retire 100% of the energy that corresponded to it from the binational centre, he recognized that it is a right established in the treaty and that if Paraguay did not do it before, it was only because it did not have the proper electric infrastructure conditions to do so. He also pointed out that the Argentinian Minister of Economy lies when he says that the debt is from Paraguay, not Yacyretá.

He considered it “very unfortunate” between Paraguay and Argentina, two brother countries whose bilateral relations must be approached thoughtfully and responsibly. “The serious thing he did was lie to the face of the President of Paraguay,” he said.
