Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Paraguayan Space Agency is working on the formation of capacities in the space field, so this technology allows economic development in several areas of the country, claimed its President, Osvaldo Almirón Riveros.
In 2018, Paraguay started to operate its first satellite, the «GuaraníSAT1», destined to monitor a part of the country’s territory for public health purposes. Currently, the second phase of the project contemplates the launching of a second Paraguayan satellite into space.
Yesterday, a meeting was held between the Ministry of Technologies of Information and Communications (Mitic, by its acronym in Spanish) and the General Director of Strategic Communication, César Palacios, and Eng. Adolfo Jara, who serves as General Director of Planning of the Agency and Director of the Special Engineering Degree at the National University of Caaguazú.
Jara pointed out that even though it is essential to have a satellite in orbit and take our flag to space, the real value of this project lies in the human capital formed, which was present in the first phase.
“We want to replicate our experience with the launch of the second satellite, which we hope to have ready in approximately three years,” he explained.
“It is important to highlight that this new project will allow more young people to have the opportunity to participate in the space field, just like we did with the GuaraniSat1, this time in Paraguay”, said the Engineer.
On the occasion, he also emphasized that new opportunities are coming since next year, a young engineer, Sol Chamorro, will travel to Japan to pursue a master’s degree in Spatial Systems.
