Vice President announced that Argentina will start to pay the debt accumulated for energy transfer

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Vice President of the Republic, Pedro Alliana, announced this Thursday that Argentina will disburse $12 million of the $93 million accumulated as a debt for the energy transfer of the Binational Entity Yacyretá. The Vice President asked for respect to Paraguay and demanded a fair price.

“We will have good news this afternoon. Of the $93 million, they will pay $12 million and continue paying monthly until that debt is paid off. “Separately, it would be the $18 million that we want to be paid for the energy,” Alliana explained this Thursday after participating in the opening of the Paraguay-Brazil Expo.

The Vice President pointed out that the intention of the Executive Branch was never to harm Argentina. “The only thing we have been asking is respect for Paraguay, for a fair price to be paid for the energy that we are selling to them today”, he mentioned.

In that sense, he affirmed that it “Is a lie that Paraguay is selling the energy too pricey to Argentina”, claiming that the other supplier of Argentina is selling the energy six times more expensive than Paraguay.

Alliana stated that the government only demands fair prices in exchange for the product and, primarily, that Argentina honor their debts just as it had been doing before. “There is a debt of $93 million that Argentina recognized, and they had committed to fulfil, when Sergio Massa reunited with President Santiago Peña, but that did not happen”, explained.

Pedro Alliana said that Paraguay pretends that Argentina assumes a severe commitment and, above all, the delivery of an essential part of the million-dollar debt and the normalization of the 18 million dollars they had been paying monthly.

On the other hand, he referred to the waterway Paraguay-Paraná. He recognized that it is a much more complex topic. “I believe that it Will be defined at a Mercosur meeting, since it is an issue that not only affects Paraguay (…) an agreement can be reached about the toll that is being charged on the waterway, probably after the elections (of Argentina in October)”, he claimed.
