Yerba sector optimistic about the Paraguayan Government and transition in Argentina

Asunción, Agencia IP.- In an interview on «Tribuna,» a program broadcasted by Paraguay TV, Christian Cieplik, CEO of the Santa Margarita Group, commented on Santiago Peña’s Government and Argentina’s transition following the inauguration of Javier Milei.

Regarding Peña’s Government, Cieplik stated that he is convinced that the President desires a country with more equitable socio-economic development. «As an economist, he understands that if each Paraguayan does better, the entire country will proportionally do better. That’s why he is working in that direction and sending signals with his messages,» he affirmed.

He also highlighted Peña’s speeches to Mercosur and the European Union, seeing them as an opportunity to strengthen the regional bloc and position Paraguay as an attractive market for other countries.

Concerning Argentina’s Government change, the guest remarked that it is a «very profound» change, and Milei’s speech was «very interesting.» «At various times, he said it was going to be tough, and people applauded that,» he noted.

Regarding the impact of the change of Government in Argentina on Paraguay, the guest said it is positive, especially for the yerba mate export sector. «In the world, only three countries produce yerba mate, and with the new Government in Argentina, the restrictions they had for importing are lifted,» he explained.

«The last two years were very tough for the Paraguayan yerba mate industry, but now we are confident that discussions will be smoother between the two countries,» he added.

Cieplik reiterated his optimism about the future of relations between Paraguay and Argentina. «Both Presidents have a socio-economic perspective on governance, which benefits us,» he concluded.
