Asunción, Agencia IP.- The National Direction of Sanitary Vigilance (Dinavisa, by its acronym in Spanish) celebrated a new anniversary with the commitment to assuring the quality, security and efficacy of the products regulated by the technical professionals of the institution.
In its social media, it stands out the work of 26 years ensuring the health protection of the population and national development. The institution was created on October 10, 1997, by Law 1119 of “Products for Health and others”.
The institution is in the process of obtaining the certification as a regulatory authority of international reference.
“We are celebrating a new anniversary at Dinavisa, providing an effective attention and compromised with the assure of quality, security and efficiency of the regulated products”, expressed.
Previously, as a celebration, three workshops on Pharmacovigilance and Technovigilance were made.
Ensure transparency and technical excellence
Dinavisa, the institution focused on improving the levels of quality and providing services, taught its workers from missional areas the System of Quality Management ISO 17020 “Regarding “Requirements for the Functioning of different types of Organisms that make inspections” to achieve more efficient ways to work and get more fructiferous and trustworthy relations with the regulated sector and the citizens.
The National Director, MSc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Jorge Iliou, manifested his commitment to ensure Dinavisa’s transparency and elevate it to a higher status as a National Regulatory Authority of International Reference, pointing out that it is the main objective of his management.
“I desire that we become a synonym of technical excellence. During this short period, we have achieved two extraordinary and historical achievements: Almost 400 professionals of health from the public and private sector from the whole country were able to receive training through workshops of Pharmacovigilance and Technovigilance”, he mentioned.
“The Pan American Health Organization of the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Public Health and Social Wellbeing supported our initiative. It was declared of National Interest by the President of the Republic”, highlighted Iliou.
“After months of hard work, I have asked the PAHO/WHO to perform the assisted auto evaluation to Dinavisa; thanks to this action, from September 13 to 15, a multidisciplinary team of seven experts, comprised of internationals and consultants, evaluated the institution: the functioning of our regulating system using the Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT), that is an updated tool with high global standards that are difficult to meet. At the end of this evaluation, in their preliminary report, these international specialists highlighted the strengths obtained by the institution”, he remarked.
Beginnings of Dinavisa
This institution started in 1975 as the “Department of Chemistry and Pharmacy”, with headquarters in the Ministry of Public Health and Social Wellbeing; to be ascended as Direction of Sanitary Vigilance of Drugs, Medications and related technical office created by ministry resolution in March of 1989.
In 1977, it was created the National Direction of Sanitary Vigilance (Dinavisa) by Law 1119/97, “Of Products for Health and Others”, an organism dependent on the Ministry of Public Health and Social Wellbeing, with administrative and financial autarky, highly technical and supervisory.
In 2021, Law 6788/2021 established the autonomy, competence, powers and organic structure of the National Directorate of Health Surveillance, and finally, Dinavisa acquires administrative and financial autarky by Law No. 7050/2023 that “Approves the General Budget of the Nation for the fiscal year 2023.”
