Asunción, Agencia, IP.- President Santiago Peña arrived yesterday to Rome, where he will stay until tomorrow, after developing an agenda that includes meetings with authorities from the Vatican and Italy.
The Paraguayan Ambassador received the Head of State to the Vatican, Leticia Casati, and authorities of the Holy See. His first activities occurred yesterday when Italian media interviewed him: RAI (at their TG1 program) and Corriere della Sera.
Peña also had a meeting with Mr. Fabrizio Di Amato, President and Owner of Tecnimont. At night, the Head of State attended a dinner organized by Carlos Sama, Honorary Consul of Paraguay, in Monaco.
Today, the Paraguayan president had an audience with Pope Francis and met with Cardinal Pietro Parolín, Secretary of State for Vatican City.
Other meetings today are with the Italian businessman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo (former President of Ferrari and founder of the Italia Futura think tank) and the Grand Master and head of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, John T. Dunlap.
Tomorrow, the Paraguayan President will meet with the Paraguayan Community residing in Italy, then a meeting with María Malaguti, President of Unidroit, and a bilateral meeting with Mr. QU Dongyu, Director General of the FAO. A bilateral meeting is also planned with Lorenzo Fontana, President of the Chamber of Deputies.
In the afternoon, a meeting with the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, is expected. In Milan, Peña will meet with representatives of Fratelli Beretta (which produces pork products and sausages) and Pietro Fiorentini (from the sector of fuels and energy).
Climate Change Summit
The President’s visit to Italy is before he participates in the 28th United Nations Summit on Climate Change (COP 28) in Dubai.
There, the Government seeks to present carbon credits, recently enacted by the Executive and other measures that show the environmental practices promoted by Paraguay.
