Paraguayan rowers reach quarterfinals

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Alejandra Alonso and Javier Insfrán’s remarkable performance this Sunday allowed them to reach the quarterfinals of the Paris Olympic Games.

Both competed in the repechage at 9:00 AM local time at the Nautical Stadium of Vaires-Sur-Marne.

Alejandra Alonso was the first in the women’s single scull and secured first place in her heat, finishing almost 10 seconds ahead of her closest competitor with a time of 07:57.14.

Meanwhile, Javier Insfrán finished second in his heat at 07:08.29, securing his place in the quarterfinals.

Both will compete again this Tuesday, July 30, at 3:30 AM and 4:10 AM (Paraguayan time).

Yesterday, Gabriela Narváez made history for Paraguay in the Olympic Games by being the first athlete in an individual sport to finish among the top eight and earn an Olympic Diploma.

The judoka finished 7th after losing in the quarterfinals to Baasankhuu Bavuudorj from Mongolia, who won the silver medal in the competition, and in the repechage match against Abiba Abuzhakynova from Kazakhstan, who finished 5th in the tournament.

It was also a great day for the under-23 Albirroja, who won 4-2 against Israel in stoppage time and are now fighting to advance to the next phase.

The Paraguayan delegation’s competitions continue this Monday, July 29, with the debut of the duo Giuliana Poletti and Michelle Valiente against Canada.

Matheo Mateos will compete in the 200-meter individual medley swimming event on Thursday, August 1, starting at 5:40 AM. Fabrizio Zanotti will also compete in golf that day, beginning at 3:00 AM. On Friday, August 2, it will be the turn of Xenia Hiebert and Cesar Almirón in the 100 and 200-meter athletics events.
