Paraguay and the United Arab Emirates strengthen strategic dialogue to boost trade

Asunción, Agencia IP.- The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, held a high-level meeting with authorities from the United Arab Emirates to strengthen bilateral relations and explore new opportunities for Paraguay as a strategic partner in the Gulf region.

President Peña highlighted the shared interest in finding avenues of cooperation that benefit both nations, emphasizing that the United Arab Emirates serves as a gateway for Paraguayan production and exports to a market that imports over one billion dollars in food annually.

«They showed great interest, as food security is one of their main challenges, and they see Paraguay as a reliable supplier of beef, pork, poultry, and lamb,» stated President Peña.

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, the meeting was held with the Minister of Economy and Chairman of the General Civil Aviation Authority, H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, and the Chairman of Terminals Holding, Mohammed Al Khaili.

The dialogue also included the possibility of exporting Paraguayan products through a logistics corridor to facilitate the distribution of food and other strategic goods in the region. In addition, investment opportunities were discussed regarding infrastructure for export corridors and the development of data centers leveraging Paraguay’s competitive and renewable energy.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, who also participated in the meeting, explained that the conversation focused on five key areas: trade, food exports, energy, logistics, and technology. He noted that the United Arab Emirates has established partnerships with top-tier companies, such as Microsoft, to operate data centers that serve the entire region.

In this context, Emirati authorities expressed their desire to organize a business mission to visit Paraguay and assess collaboration opportunities with the national private sector. Minister Giménez emphasized that this visit is part of the government’s strategy to diversify the national economy.

Another topic discussed during the meeting was the recent agreement signed with Singapore to capture carbon and develop a green industry, positioning Paraguay as a regional leader in the fight against climate change and environmental sustainability. In line with this vision, President Peña reaffirmed that partnerships with strategic allies are essential to generating opportunities and achieving long-term sustainable development.

A growing Paraguay that exports and attracts investment

On the same day, President Santiago Peña also met with executives from G42, the largest technology holding and artificial intelligence powerhouse in the Middle East—and one of the most important in the world.

According to the presidency, they discussed strategic partnerships to leverage Paraguay’s clean energy to develop data centers that would drive the country’s digital transformation.

«The Government of Paraguay reaffirms its commitment to working with international partners and local entrepreneurs to make the country more productive, modern, and competitive. The meeting with authorities from the United Arab Emirates reflects the trust Paraguay inspires as a platform for exports and a growth engine in the region.»
