Asunción, Agencia IP.- The Embassy of the State of Israel in Paraguay celebrated the 77th anniversary of its independence, Yom Ha’atzmaut, in an official ceremony held at the theater of the Central Bank of Paraguay. The authorities highlighted the «solid and exemplary relationship» that both countries maintain.
Through a video message sent from Jerusalem, Israeli President Isaac Herzog stated that, for nearly eight decades, Paraguay has been a courageous and valuable ally and friend of Israel, whose relationship has continued to deepen in numerous fields, including security, innovation, health, education, agriculture, and others.
«At a time when evil is justified by so many, Paraguay has raised its voice strongly on the side of justice and humanity. We were deeply moved by Paraguay’s historic decision to move its embassy to Jerusalem, a courageous gesture of friendship amid a brutal conflict,» Isaac Herzog said.
During his intervention, Israeli Ambassador to Paraguay Amit Mekel mentioned, «I do not believe in coincidences: that Paraguay and Israel share such a recent date of independence is further proof of the deep ties and history that bind our nations as true sisters. Today, 77 years later, we celebrate a relationship that is not only solid but exemplary.»
He also stressed that Paraguay stood firm on the side of Israel, which he said would honor such historic support, reflecting not only a diplomatic stance but also a firm brotherly bond. «Israel is here to support Paraguay,» he asserted.
For his part, Vice President Pedro Alliana reaffirmed Paraguay’s commitment to the bilateral relationship. «In Paraguay, we recognize that the threat facing Israel transcends its borders. Therefore, we adopt a firm stance in declaring the Islamic Revolutionary Guard of Iran as a terrorist entity,» he said.
«It was a decision based on principles, to honor history, assert reality, and stand shoulder to shoulder with a friend. In the pain and the fortitude, in the memory and the hope, in the determination and the faith. We stand together, we build together, we believe together in the promise of peace,» Alliana sentenced.
