Asunción, Agencia IP.- Between January and March of this year, the National Directorate of Migration received 18,071 residency applications from foreign citizens, representing an 85% increase compared to the 9,760 applications registered during the same period in 2025.
This figure is equivalent to 38% of the total applications submitted throughout 2025, which closed with a record 47,687 applications.
Of the total registered in the first quarter of 2026, 14,995 correspond to temporary residency (+105% year-on-year) and 3,076 to permanent residency (+25% year-on-year).
During the same period, the Immigration Department issued 14,275 residency permits, representing a 110% increase compared to 2015. Of that total, 11,064 were temporary, and 3,211 were permanent.
Brazil leads the ranking, accounting for 64% of all residency permits granted, with 9,195 cases, followed by Argentina (1,205), Germany (651), and Spain (373). The United States (228), Venezuela (204), France (195), Russia (194), Bolivia (184), and finally, the Netherlands (170) follow.
Other immigration procedures
In addition to residency permits, the institution processed and issued other immigration documents, including 370 temporary residency permits, 480 replacement residency cards, 114 permanent residency card renewals, 838 certificates of residence, 135 extensions of stay, and 437 temporary residency permits. These latter permits are granted as provisional documents for applicants for temporary residency in accordance with Law No. 6984/22.
The Immigration Office reminds the public that these procedures can be carried out at its offices in Asunción, Ciudad del Este, Encarnación, Pedro Juan Caballero, Concepción, Salto del Guairá, and other locations nationwide.
