Paraguay at Fitur 2024: Technological innovation and recognition as gastronomic Capital

Asunción, Agencia IP.- Our country will showcase its entire tourist offering in a new edition of the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (Fitur 2024), the leading fair for Latin American countries. On this occasion, Asunción will be declared the «Ibero-American Capital of Guarani Gastronomy in the context of the Jesuit Missions.»

Paraguay will be presented alongside local entrepreneurs from the tourism sector, featuring its most important destinations.

Fitur 2024 brings together 145 countries, over 9,000 companies in the sector, and 150,000 professional attendees, where the National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur) expects to finalize favorable business deals for Paraguayan operators.

«This is one of the most important fairs, so we decided to include it in our international fair calendar, where Paraguay will always have a top-tier booth,» stated Minister Angie Duarte in statements to Agencia IP.

The Senatur booth at Fitur 2024 will offer an experience mediated by technology. Additionally, the Minister of Tourism will present the «Visit South America» brand alongside her counterparts from Mercosur.

Fitur 2024 starts this Wednesday, January 24, and will run until Sunday, January 28.

Technological innovation

One of the innovations implemented by Senatur since late November is «TurisBot,» a chat that uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) to offer the best options to interested visitors. «TurisBot» operates on the Visit Paraguay website, providing a personalized experience to interested parties. The portal contains all the experiences and tourist circuits our country offers.

During the fair, Asunción will receive the distinction of «Mother of Cities, Ibero-American Capital of Guarani Gastronomy in the Socio-Cultural Scope of the Jesuit Missions.»

The Ibero-American Capitals are a brand designation created by the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy (AIBG) to recognize the gastronomic excellence of member countries. It is considered the highest distinction of the Academy, demonstrating Paraguay’s gastronomic excellence and contributing to its positioning as a quality tourist destination.

Rafael Ansón, President of AIBG, emphasized that Paraguayan gastronomy maintains elements of pre-Columbian cuisine with Spanish influence, making it of great interest. In a column in El Confidencial, he highlighted Paraguay’s designation and Asunción as the center of gastronomy in the context of the Missions. He also mentioned Paraguayan gastronomy restaurants in Madrid offering star dishes such as vorí vorí, recently considered the «Best Soup in the World» by the Taste Atlas guide.

The distinction as the Gastronomic Capital of Ibero-America in the context of the Missions is possible through joint efforts between Senatur, the Directorate of Intellectual Property (Dinapi), the Paraguayan Academy of Gastronomy (Apyga), and the Association of Restaurants of Paraguay (ARPY).
